A Hundred Years of Good Ideas

Some designs simply never date. A pair of French doors thrown open onto the garden on a warm afternoon is one of them — equally at home on a Woodbridge cottage as on a brand-new extension in Kesgrave. They remain one of the most requested garden doors we fit from our Newmarket base, in homes across Kesgrave, Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe and throughout Suffolk and Essex.

We install uPVC French doors manufactured in Britain by Emplas on Profile 22's thermally efficient Optima system, in two ranges: the classic Optima French door, in chamfered or fully sculptured profiles with 19 colour and foiled finishes available from stock, and the Optima Slim, whose ultra-slim frames carry larger panes of glass for a brighter, more contemporary look. Both come with A-rated glass units as standard and multi-point locking, fitted by our own installation team — never subcontractors.

Every installation starts with a free, no-obligation survey, is protected by our 10-year guarantee, and is FENSA-certified for building regulations compliance.

Choose Your System

Not sure which is right for your home? The simple version: the Optima French door is the timeless all-rounder at excellent value; the Optima Slim trades a little frame for a lot more glass and light. Our consultants will walk you through both at your survey.

Frequently Asked Questions

What uPVC French door systems and options do you offer?
We install two Emplas French door ranges, both manufactured in Britain on Profile 22's Optima system: the standard Optima French door, available in chamfered or fully sculptured profiles with a choice of 19 low-maintenance foiled and colour finishes held in stock, and the Optima Slim French door, which uses an ultra-slim frame for larger glass panels and extra natural light. Both come with A-rated glass units as standard, multi-point locking, and options for matching side panels. During your free survey we will help you choose the right range for your opening, budget, and the look you want.
Do French doors open inwards or outwards?
Either — it's your choice, and we will manufacture the doors to suit. Opening outwards is the most popular option because it keeps the full floor space inside the room free, while opening inwards suits homes where a patio, path or planting sits close to the doors outside. Both leaves open fully in each case, giving you the whole clear width of the frame.
Should I choose French doors, sliding patio doors or bifolds?
French doors are the classic choice for openings up to around 1.8 metres: two elegant hinged leaves that open the full width, suit period and modern homes alike, and cost the least of the three. For wider openings, sliding patio doors give bigger panes of glass and slimmer frames, while bifold doors concertina back to open almost the entire aperture. We install all three, so we can show you each option at your free survey with no bias either way.
How long does installation take from order?
Our current lead time from survey to installation is 6 to 8 weeks. Every French door set is manufactured to your exact opening size by Emplas, so after your survey we confirm the final measurements, place the order, and book your installation date. The installation itself is usually completed within one day.
Do I need planning permission to install a new set of French doors in Suffolk?
In most cases, replacing an existing door like-for-like falls under Permitted Development and does not require planning permission. If you are creating a new opening, live in a listed building, or are in a designated conservation area, consent may be required. Our surveyor will advise you during your free consultation.
What areas do you install uPVC French doors in?
We are based in Newmarket and install across all surrounding areas including Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Ely, Haverhill, Newmarket, Rushmere St Andrew, and throughout Suffolk and Essex. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, call 01638 591 638.
Are your French doors guaranteed?
Yes. Every installation comes with our comprehensive 10-year installation guarantee, and we are FENSA registered so your installation is certified as compliant with UK building regulations.
