In and Out a Hundred Times a Day

Nobody photographs their back door, but everybody uses it — the school run, the dog, the washing line, the barbecue. It's the door that gets opened a hundred times a day, which is exactly why a draughty, sticking or flimsy one makes itself felt so quickly. Replacing it is one of the most satisfying, best-value improvements we fit from our Newmarket base, in homes across Kesgrave, Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe and throughout Suffolk and Essex.

We install uPVC back doors manufactured in Britain by Emplas on the multi-chamber Profile 22 Optima frame, with A-rated glass units as standard. And because the back of the house is where an intruder would rather try, every door comes with the same protection as our front doors: a multi-point locking mechanism and a 3-Star British Kitemark TS007 cylinder — anti-drill, anti-snap and anti-pick. Half-glazed, fully glazed or solid, in a wide choice of finishes, all fitted by our own installation team — never subcontractors.

Every installation starts with a free, no-obligation survey, is protected by our 10-year guarantee, and is FENSA-certified for building regulations compliance.

Choose Your Style

Every Emplas back door is built on the same Profile 22 Optima frame — the choice is in the glazing and the profile finish. The simple version: glazed layouts bring garden light into the kitchen; chamfered edges look crisp and modern, sculptured curves suit traditional homes. Our consultants will bring both to your survey.

Our Standard Profile

Optima Chamfered

Clean, contemporary lines that suit most homes — and the practical favourite for kitchens and utility rooms. Choose a half-glazed layout for light with privacy below worktop height, or a fully glazed door for the best view of the garden.

In plain English: a warm, tough, everyday door that shrugs off the weather and the school run alike — at a price that makes it an easy decision.
Our Traditional Profile

Optima Sculptured

The same frame, the same security, a softer face. The sculptured profile's gently curved detailing echoes traditional timber joinery — the natural pick for cottages and period properties, especially in a woodgrain foil finish.

Lead Times

Survey to Installation: 6–8 Weeks on Average

Because every door is completely made-to-measure for your specific opening, our standard timeline from final survey to installation averages 6 to 8 weeks (currently scheduling installations between 24 August and 7 September). We survey and confirm final measurements, your door goes into production with Emplas, and we book your installation date — the fitting itself is usually completed cleanly and efficiently within a single day by our expert fitters.

Please note: This is an estimated indication. If you require your door sooner, please discuss this with us during your survey — we will always try to accommodate if possible. Likewise, timelines can occasionally be extended for highly bespoke designs or specialised finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What uPVC back door options do you offer?
We install Emplas uPVC back doors built on the British-made Profile 22 Optima frame, in half-glazed, fully glazed and solid panelled designs, opening inwards or outwards to suit your space. Glass can be clear for garden views or obscured for privacy, A-rated units come as standard, and there's a wide choice of colour and woodgrain finishes so the door matches the rest of your home. We will bring samples and design options to your free survey.
Are uPVC back doors as secure as front doors?
With us, yes — and that matters, because the back door is statistically the burglar's preferred way in. Every Emplas back door we fit comes with the same specification as our front doors: a multi-point locking mechanism and a 3-Star British Kitemark TS007 cylinder as standard — anti-drill, anti-snap, bump resistant and anti-pick, rated SS312 Sold Secure Diamond.
How long does installation take from order?
Our current lead time from survey to installation is 6 to 8 weeks. Every back door is manufactured to your exact opening size by Emplas, so after your survey we confirm the final measurements, place the order, and book your installation date. The installation itself is usually completed within one day.
Do I need planning permission to install a new back door in Suffolk?
In most cases, replacing an existing door like-for-like falls under Permitted Development and does not require planning permission. If you are creating a new opening, live in a listed building, or are in a designated conservation area, consent may be required. Our surveyor will advise you during your free consultation.
Can you fit a cat flap or dog flap in a uPVC back door?
Yes. The neatest result comes from specifying the flap when the door is ordered, so Emplas can build it into a solid panel or supply a glass unit manufactured with the flap in place — cutting into a sealed glazed unit after fitting isn't possible. Just mention it at your survey and we will design the door around it.
What areas do you install uPVC back doors in?
We are based in Newmarket and install across all surrounding areas including Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Ely, Haverhill, Newmarket, Rushmere St Andrew, and throughout Suffolk and Essex. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, call 01638 591 638.
Are your back doors guaranteed?
Yes. Every installation comes with our comprehensive 10-year installation guarantee, and we are FENSA registered so your installation is certified as compliant with UK building regulations.
